Sinus infection symptoms are many but most of the times people confuse them with cold symptoms. These infections can be either acute or chronic. Sinus infections frequently follow a cold or allergies. Bacteria and fungi can be the cause of sinus problems. The mucus that remains after a cold or allergies is a perfect environment where bacteria can grow and multiply; when that happens a sinus infection may appear. When left untreated the infection can cause you to lose your sense of smell among other problems. Other things that can cause inflammation of your sinus are the environmental factors such as: dust, smoke, fumes and dust mite droppings. Fungi can easily develop from the later conditions and cause you a lot of trouble.
One of the main symptoms of the infection is the yellow or green discharge from the nose. If the discharge is clear it means the infection has not fully developed so it can be stopped easier, although there is the chance that you are suffering from a cold and an infection at the same time. Sore throat is another symptom. Your throat could be irritated because of the discharges that run down behind the nose. Nasal congestion is very common. When the mucus starts to accumulate behind the nose area it begins creating a pressure that eventually leads to the sinus headache.
Sinus headaches are one of the most popular symptoms for people that suffer sinus infection. The headache is located across the forehead area and sometimes you can feel it behind the cheeks area and in the eyes. The symptoms are very similar from a cold but a common cold usually last a week tops while the sinus infection can continue for weeks and even months.
Drinking water is the most basic remedy but also one of the most effective. That way the secretions will thin and the congestion will be relieved faster. You can also use a hot towel and put it in your face, which will also help to thin the mucus congestion. Some nasal sprays will help momentarily to get some relief but you cannot use them for more than 3 days otherwise the congestion will get worse. You can boil water with some eucalyptus and inhale steam to clear the nasal congestion but be careful not to burn your face.
