Question by amaya m: Question about " Excedrin Migraine" and Tylenol for tension headaches?
I see all these different products, tylenol tension headaches, excedrin migraine , arthrites etc...but then when I look at the ingredients, they're all the same as regular tylenol: acetominaphem. How can they claim it's specific for migraines? Is this just a marketing scheme or am I overlooking something?

The excedrin migraine also has caffeine, which is good for migraines.
I've used it and it's the only thing that works, even better than prescritption stuff like Zomig.

Excedrin migraine has caffeine. If none of these work for you I like Advil migraine its a little hard to find but totally worth it.
In my younger days when I used to get migraines, the only thing that would help was Excedrin. I think it was definitely the caffeine in them that helped.
They have something extra in there that does work. I think you are over looking something. I have used the excedrin migraine and it has helped and if I use it at the very beginning of a migraine I can catch it if not I have to use a prescription from my Dr. for for Imitrex and then sometimes i still have to use a double dose of that. The tension headache from tylenol helps me in a room that has a lot of lights I don’t get headaches from the lights. I am very sensitive to lights and the Tylenol tension headache meds help with that, i don’t know why but it does.

I have been buying these headache pads for a long time. Before this, I bought something called “Migraine Ice Pads”, but they are no longer around.
Here’s how they work – there are two forehead sized pads in each sealed enclosure. There are two enclosures per box. You can reseal any individual enclosure, so you could have 4 different headache pads with each box.
But this is what I do for maximum affect – I take one of the pads and clip off a teeny bit of each corner and put that one on my forehead (otherwise it adheres to my hair which isn’t good.) I take the second pad, and cut it in half and place those on my temples (with another tiny cutout to avoid my eyes.) And I lay down and let them help relieve the pain.
If you have a migraine or tension headache, these pads will work for a couple of hours. At least for me, it’s not that much more than that, but it’s enough time to allow you to rest and/or fall asleep. And they do get cold, really cold, although it takes around 5- 10 minutes. (So don’t be disappointed when you first put them on and they are merely cool to the touch.)
I also have autoimmune problems, and often get fevers. These pads are wonderful for that, and they cool and comfort you. The only problem is that with a fever, they really don’t stay cold very long at all, but again, they’re wonderful while it lasts. What a comfort if you have the flu!
It’s true that these are pretty expensive, but all the pads like this are. Do know that they really work, and that when are in the midst of a headache, they are a godsend.
Highly recommended. I’ve been using them for years. Excellent to use on kids, too.

For migraine sufferers; this stuff really works; may not cure it, but will certainly soothe it and bring it to a much more tolerable level. Better than taking pills

I put these on the back of my neck when the office gets too hot but I’m the only one feeling it. It cools me down right away, and stays attached about 6 hours. Couldn’t ask for a better way to cool off without freezing out everyone else.

I bought this product with skepticism that there was no way it could possibly keep cool for 6+ hours. Yesterday I tried it out for the first time and it did keep cool for 5+ hours, at which time I removed it from my head.
I get headaches where the patch wasn’t made to be put, so I use a baseball cap to keep it in place and that works just fine. It feels good to have coolness over the area of my head that radiates pain.

I get terrible sinus and stress migraines in the temple area. I do get an aura, and I do get a “warning” prelude to a migraine where it stays confined to that zone of my face before becoming a full-blown migraine requiring prescription drugs or injections. I used to rely on things that didn’t work, like frozen peas or ziplock bags of ice wrapped in towels until about four or five years ago I found these things and have been in love since. Since they stick to my forehead I can doze off without having to worry about waking up a mess. I keep a stockpile of these under my bathroom sink.
