ALWAYS be honest with your doctor. They aren't there to judge, but if you keep information from them, they wont be able to effectively and safely treate you.

  1. They will assess you and try to see where they can help you and ways to improve on how you are being managed as of now. Plus always write down everything they will need to know even if you think it may be bad or harm your chances. It shouldn’t change a thing as they need to have all the facts to be able to best help you. Don’t be ashamed of any previous health related problems which required may have required you to attend drug / alcohol rehab. Good luck. :)

  2. be honest and upfront doctors lose trust with paitents who are dishonest .dont be ashamed or afraid to answer it will be between you and you dr. pain manangement doctors are trained and more informed about long term use of narcotics they also know many people go to great lenghts to control there pain ex: ER visits multiple visits with diffrent docs. The main focuse of you treatment should be how to take your meds correctly and foucus on the future forgetting what has been done in the past if you are upfront about you past being up front about your history you doc will gain trust in you dont hold back anything its better they here it from you and not find out and confront you beware they may run an elecrontic precription history this showes every controlled substance you have been prescribed if the doc is compasitonte and understanding there should be no problems good lick

  3. It’s important to be honest with them. Hopefully they will and likely are trained to deal with your situation and know or will want to know more about why you were in rehab, etc so they can know what risk you are for addiction or know to keep more tabs on you, etc….

every pain clinic is different in terms of pain management… often it’s multidisciplinatiy meaning that they have your pain specialist, psychologist, maybe psychiatrist, physical therapist often times and others to come up with a plan to help address your pain.

There are many modalities for pain including cognitive behavioral therapy, biofeedback, injections of different types, TENS and EMS units as well as narcotic adn non-narcotic pain management. A lot of tiems things are used in mixture and basicaly they want to find a better way to manage your pain with the least risk for addiction and other unwanted side effects.

Anyways, there are so many diffeent approaches to pain maangement and hopefully this clinic you are going to is one that has a positive view and not one that tends to think that anything you do for pain like using a cane is just a crutch for attention or something bizare like that!!! I’ve heard it all..

The pain clinic i go to is very nice and they have done a great job managing my pain much better than my doctors ahve so its good your doctor cares and wants you to go.. maybe it will make things better for you so you dont need lortab all of the time or something.. who knows…

    good fortune…

  4. They will just sit down with you and talk about everything that you’ve tried to help your pain. He will discuss your options for treatment (drugs, patches, injections, implants, ect.). Then he will let you know what he thinks will be the best plan to help you.
You cannot lie about anything. If you were in drug/alcohol rehab just explain the situation and that you got out successfully. But they will probably monitor your meds much more closely for a time.
I’ve been going to a pain mng clinic for almost a year and they have helped me reduce my pain by about 85%. Just listen to the doctor; go in with a list of questions so you don’t forget anything you want to discuss with him. Know your diagnosis well and the approved treatments so you can get the most out of the appointment.
    Good Luck!
