Giving Up Milk

A panel of experts at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in US revealed that people who are intolerant to dairy products by not having them and deprive themselves from calcium and other necessary nutrients may be affecting their health and diet. This conference on lactose intolerance was done to examine the latest research on lactose intolerance, to develop strategies that could manage the conditions and the health outcomes of diets without dairy products.

Dr Robert P Heaney, a prominent researcher at Creighton University who presented findings to the panel on the health outcomes of dairy exclusion diets, said that lactose intolerance is a topic that is frequently misunderstood.

The inability to digest lactose due to the failure of the intestinal cells to produces the enzyme lactase, or if present, it is present in inadequate concentration is called lactose intolerance. A person may be intolerant to lactose due to normal aging process, or may be due to the presence of gastrointestinal infection like gardia. It may begin at any age in an individual's life.
